# The Lyre

The Lyre is infrastructure that gives software a common way to ask for work without being built around a particular provider. A capability is a reusable kind of work software can ask The Lyre to perform.

Lyre Web is the human-facing interface for The Lyre. It depends on The Lyre; The Lyre exists independently of this website. Accounts, sessions, MFA, organizations, services, providers, and capability contracts belong to The Lyre.

## Access paths

- Native software: application -> LyreSDK -> RDGProto -> The Lyre.
- Human access: Lyre Web displays and mediates underlying Lyre resources.
- Generic clients and agents: HTTP/JSON -> HTTPS gateway -> RDGProto -> The Lyre. The gateway translates requests and responses; it is not a separate capability implementation.
- Public catalogue records describe publication state. Enabled providers are not proof of connected services.
